Depending on your view of the franchise, news that The Expendables WILL return for a third outing could be met with either jubilation or exasperation. Personally, I think that there is always room for Barney Ross and his band of gun toting mercenaries.
Following the relative success of The Expendables 2, Stallone and producer Avi Lerner have made announcements of their intent to make The Expendables 3. Naturally, the net is abuzz with predictions of who will enlist for the third outing. And names such as Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes and Steven Segal are being thrown about with real weight; they have all but signed on the dotted line.
But while we are still in the ambiguity of a pre-script stage, let us indulge for a moment. Cinema is filled with action stars ripe for the choosing, and although some are too established as certain characters in other franchises (Daniel Craig, Christian Bale) or not right for The Expendables universe (Keanu Reeves, Channing Tatum), I can think of at least 15 badass thespians perfect for the job.
Ladies and gents, I give you my list of 15 Badasses We Would Like To See In The Expendables 3. All of which come with a suggested weapon of choice…because, you know, every mercenary needs a specialty.

Great list, pretty much agree with everyone, Wesley Snipes has been rumoured to appear, I would also like to see a wrestler like Austin was in the first one, if not Rock then someone else, just a few to mention,
Christian Bale,
Bill Duke,
Samuel Jackson,
Morgan Freeman? He was great in RED haha
And how about the ultimate radge pot, TOM HARDY!!!
Boutros Boutsor Ghali!
Made clandestine deals with Nato and now has 16 F-16s! Yes, i said 16! And they F-16s!
NEXT>>
Rick James!!!
He’s Rick James bitch! Baddest MF around.
NEXT>>
Marine Corps. Not Marine Core. Get some!
My ignorance regarding the armed forces has never been more obvious. Ha. Thanks Joshua.
Mel Gibson isn’t past his sell by date How I Spent My Summer Vacation proved that.
Wesley Snipes, Kurt Russell, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Danny Trejo.
Steven Seagal if he lost weight, stopped using a stand-in for almost everything and didn’t have his dialog dubbed.
Michael Biehn would of been on my list but he was arrogant by posting on Facebook that he doesn’t need Stallone to resurrect his career.
Tony Jaa can’t speak English but maybe if the 3rd film is set in Thailand or requires a mute villian. The Rock I say no because Wrestlers in films are awful.
That was my point. In fact i outright said How I Spent My Summer Vacation demonstrates how badass Mel Gibson still is.
Yeah, agree totally! Loved it. Kurt Russel and Tony Jaa would be amazing as Expendables. Surprised I didn’t see any Steven Seagal or even Denzel Washington in there.
I do love Washington. But i think he is just too cool and a very specific type of action hero that doesnt fit into the Expendables model.
I wanna see ron pearlman with a minigun or some huge ass weapon
Outstanding suggestion! Ron P is awesome and would be a great fit. Im so mad i didnt think to add him to my list.
Nice list…………I guess, an assortment of diverse personna would do the magic……….I would select these guys after filtering a few: only Stallone n Stathom from previous cast &:
1. Daniel Craig (Rude/007 Attitude/ Sophisticated/Smart) OR Clive Owen
2. Dwayne “The Rock”Johnson (Hardcore Musle) OR Goldberg
3. Kurt Russell OR Eric Roberts
4. Michelle Rodriguez OR Rhona Mitra
5. Ron Perlman OR Jean Reno
6. Wesley Snipes OR Tay Diggs
5.
There are literally hundreds of great actors you could put in for a third one and other future sequels, a few more,
Hugh Jackman,
Matt Damon,
Keifer Sutherland,
Russell Crowe,
Jesse Ventura,
John Wayne,
Apologies for my John Wayne (RIP) name previous comment,
Steven Seagal, Thomas Jane, and Hugh Jackman should be on this list.
The reason why I thought of Steven Seagal is because my late father enjoyed watching his movies. He also knows Aikido and gun slinging.
The reason why I thought of Thomas Jane is because he portrayed the Punisher in the 2004 titular film. His expertise in gun slinging and military martial arts could come in handy.
Finally, the reason why I thought of Hugh Jackman is because he portrayed Wolverine. I would like to see him in action in The Expendables 3. “I’m the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn’t very nice.”
Also, each of these guys should reference or mention quotes from their movies just like Arnold Schwarzennegger did in The Expendables 2. They would add more fun to the action in the next film.
Wesley Spines is rumored to be in the 3rd, but they have to wait until he gets out of jail. It would be interesting to see how they would fit Mel Gibson into the mix. Hero/Villain Chris Helmsworth could be a cool factor, since they already have his little brother in their.
Just read over it again and realized there’s no Russell Crowe or Keanu Reeves. and if there were to be a chick spin off, Uma Thurman and Sigourney Weaver would NEED to be in it.
I like the list and all, but where is Nicholas Cage?????????
Tony Jaa is semi retired as a monk now. He had a breakdown while starring and directing the two ONG BAK sequels and left the set and never returned. He just lives a monk’s life and says he currently has no want to be an action star.
Wesley Snipes, Sean Connery, and Clint Eastwood…best trio to add!
Funny that you think Michelle Rodriguez “has the resilience and guts to take on all types of roles” when every single movie I’ve seen of hers is basically the same tomboy badass babe character. She’s been playing herself since the first Resident Evil.
i should have been clearer. I meant in the sense of action films. She is not worried about being seen as hard yet sexy (ala Angelina Jolie) or impossibly faultless (ala Milla Jovovich). She is more than willing to be in amongst the guts and brawn.
MICHAEL JAI WHITE. he sould be in theese films already. thomas jane should be considered for his amazing falling running jumping perfomance in deep blue sea. gina carano if the all womans versions doesnt happen
Two syllables for you: REB BROWN.
For those of you unaware, Reb is one of the great unsung action heroes of the 80′s who never quite made it, even though I think he could have gone further than he did had he the good fortune to be in better movies. The most mainstream things he ever did were “The Howling 2″ and the ill-fated 90′s “Captain America” films. Although fans of MST3K know and love him as “Big McLargeHuge” himself from the immortal “Space Mutiny” episode. I think he was in “Uncommon Valor” with Gene Hackman, too.
I know that Reb isn’t exactly mainstream, but he does have a cult following, and he’s absurdly entertaining. And for the record, Reb Brown is the only actor out of everyone listed to have delivered a flying dropkick to a caveman while hang gliding on the corpse of a 10 foot bat monster.
True story. The man is a legend.

Bolo Yeung. Make him the muscle for the big bad. The dude may be nearly 80, but he is in good shape still, and you could google some recent pics of him.
Andrew, Tony Jaa is back to making films. He is currently filming the Protector 2 and has other films in the works.
Why is Michael Jai White nowhere on the list, or in ANY of the comments?? Come on now!!
As for Trejo, hell yes! He was on the list for the first one when it was being made, and when he was interviewed about it he said he was never even approached and heard nothing about it. Strange.
I’d like to see the one that doesn’t make me to click to see the whole article only because it gets more pageviews
The only reason we put the articles in various pages is because it keeps an aesthetic that is clean and manageable. If we stick 15 images and paragraphs on one page it looks ugly and uncouth. Anyway, the whole point of this article is so that you can read and enjoy it, not just skim through to see if you agree with the 15 choices.
I would like to see Dominic Purcell from Prison Break tv show and from Killer Elite movie in Expendables 3.
Kate Beckinsale (Underworld flicks), Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil series, UltraViolet) Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider duology), Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja flicks), Sho Kosugi (ninja legend)…. there are others that aren’t coming to mind at the moment…
As soon as I saw a sniper in Expendables 2 I immediately thought of Mark Wahlberg from shooter. I think he would be a great choice to bring in a newer action hero without
sasha mitchell!!!!!
Tom Cruise maybe?? But if you want comic relief that could still do the action, get the brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez to act like Casey Affleck and Scott Caan in the Ocean’s Trilogy. I agree with SomeGuy, and get Mark Wahlberg as the new sniper :)
Robert De Niro!! Get his badass face up there!
I have to say that your number one is spot on. After seeing Danny Trejo in number one I almost didn’t read any more. He is exactly what they need. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in a movie that I didn’t like, even if the movie was awful he made it that much better.
Also, I’d move Michelle Rodriguez much further up on the list. That woman rocks. Even if she was the standard add-on woman for the movie she would almost steal the show. She’s always looks like she’s got the brass ones that clang.
Those would be my top two and after that I could wait for the rest until number 4. LOL
What about that Bolo dude that starred with JCvD in Bloodsport? Also Lorenzo Lamas maybe. Also a badass chick would be Hilary Swank, like in Million Dollar Baby (named Mo Koeshla). Clint Eastwood as Barneys commanding officer. Russel Crowe maybe. I wanted to say Michael Clarke Duncan RIP. What about Big Show or Hulk Hogan. Michael Dudikoff. Morpheus.
MICHAEL DUDIKOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i like lots of these choices, but what about Arnold Vosloo? You know Imhotep from the Mummy movies (not the crappy 3rd one). Whatever you think about them, he was in other movies to like Blood Diamond, where he looks extremely badass as the mercenary colonel coetzee, and Hard Target, where he was lance henriksen’s main henchman helping to hunt down JCVD along with other people.
but how about some MMA fighters? “The All-American” Brian Stann is pretty much an action hero in real-life (if you have not heard about him or don’t know who he is, check him out right now.), sure he’s not an action star, but he could make a cameo as Toll Road’s cousin or possibly his son.
Kevin Grevioux (Raze in Underworld 1 and 3) could be a bad guy and possibly fight Terry Crews. Maybe bring in Thomas Jane as an assassin in a trenchcoat that tries to take out some people.
R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan, you were a great action star and person.
Haha I love that Ron Perlman was brought up he would totally fit in with the group. Donnie Yen would be a great evil henchman and then we could get a classic fight sequence between Donnie and Jet(i.e. Once Upon a Time in China Pt.2). Danny Trejo deffinately works as an addition….I also like Diesel to be in it eventually(actually if we are gonna go on the theory of getting Trench a team I like Diesel playing the counterpart to Statham there)…hold it, hold it, I have a line for that…Statham and Diesel characters meet for the first time Diesel character says “you’re short” Statham character says “you’re fat”
I’d like to see Donnie Yen, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jackie Chan
Henry Rollins…
Steven Seagal
how about lorenzo lamas? nicholas cage? sean connery? john travolta? they`re trully greats!!
Michael Dudikoff the American Ninja
Steven Seagal: he was a legend in the 90′s for films like Above The Law, Hard To Kill, Marked For Death and Out For Justice. he is a natural bad ass he is a sherif and he would make a great villian and fight stallone.
Kurt Russel: he was great in Escape From New York, Escape From LA and Big Trouble In Little China. he would be great as another old friend of Barney like Trench and Booker.
Mel Gibson: he was a legend in the 80′s and 90′s with Mad Max Trilogy and Lethal Weapon series. he would be good as an old team mate of Barney.
Clint Eastwood: he is a legend with the Dirty Harry series. He could be the leader of a team stallone schwartzeneger russel norris and gibson were once on.
WELL THE MOVIE HAS HAD ALOT OF BIG STARS BUT I’LL LIKE TO SEE 2 FEMALE STARA LIKE MILLA JOVOVICH & ANGELINA JOLIE.
they also need Alec Baldwin he would be good as a friend of Church and FBI agent
Heres me list of possible actors :]
1 Cyril Raffieali (last name might be wrong :/) anyways he’s this badass hench, he starred in D13 and D13 ultimatum, this leads to-
2 David Belle, this guys a true ninja, he is the founder of parkour and has done insane stunts including and crazy 11 story high jump to another buildin. Not bein funny but if that can’t get u in the expendables then i dont know what can :P these 2 would add a french vibe to the group :) check david belle out on youtube
3 Jeremy Renner, literally the modern robin hood in avengers
4 Timothy Olyphant? Another Hitman™ to add to the group of hitmen hahaha :D
5 Donnie Yen, Ip man could easily be in the expendables, Jet Li’s uncles perhaps?
6 Definetly Danny Trejo, depsite my respect for him as Machete, an action movie with the bar set as high as expendables, it would add a great villain for the movie without which would fail. With Machete being machete and the stathom being a knife enthusiast it could build up a great blade fight ultimately giving stathom the highlight he needs.
7 Vin Diesel would make quite a good addition to the firm of henchs takin on the evils of the world :P His machoness could easily re act a Toorop kind of feel to the firm as smuggler/brawler who aids the mercanaries kill plebs and be rebs:)
Last of all…… Adrien Brody! I’ve always liked his action movie, especially predators. Brody could mimic his role as Royce, a chisel chested, auto shotgun wieldin hench who has forgotten the.meanin of.life. He could replicate that character ad as he fights the bad guys eventually discovery of life towards the end of the movie which would show the expendables enjoyin the spoils of war.
But yes dudes and dudettes, they are only some of the best people.i.could think bout, there was more but meh? :D
The list is awesome. Agree with alot of the names, but most of them I see as bad guys. But most of all I think it would awesome to see Michelle Rodriguez in the third one. Then it would kinda pave the way for the female Expendables. But female version or not they should have her in the third Expendables for sure!
Westley snipes, vin diesel, clint eastwood, michael jai white, michelle rodriquez, dwayne johnson
Best bad guy henchman ever = Micheal ‘Tong Po’ Qissi….That guy owned JCVD and it wud be an awesome arse kicking match between him and Sly Stallone for the big fight of the final scenes
The Rock, Wesley Snipes, Vin Diesel
michael jai white
I’d say Vinnie Jones (lock stock & two smoking barrels)
Jackie chan would be a good support role to work with jet li again…
The rock would be a good addition but would be the villians second hand man such as stone cold in the first… Wesley snipes teaming up with stallone like demolition man would be a good idea but I think the best choice for me would be vinnie jones,
Steven segal NO, his part in machete was awful, he is well & truly past his sell by date, mel gibson also for this kind of film…
Clint eastwood, past it but still a good kick for the slapstick comedy, could possibly make it well as a millionare villain?
Nicolas cage, after watching drive angry he could make it but I think this would be a bit too demanding of him
I love the list! I love jackie chan he rules and needs to be in something great cause I haven’t seen much from him lately but… he doesn’t kill people. I know universal soldier three kinda sucked but I enjoyed the film due to andrei arlovski, he was a badass and I’d like to see him in this. Also Michael Jai White would be interesting to see as well. Oh and I almost forgot the punisher tom jane.
Bolo Yeung, Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington, Lucy Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Samuel Jackson, Russell Crowe, Clive Owen, Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, Adelawe, Idris Elba, Halle Berry, Paula Patton, Drew Barrymore and Queen latifah.
i like to see..Tom Cruise, Donnie Yen, Sean Bean, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Colin Farrel, Leonardo Dicaprio, Ed Harris, William Forsythe, Val Kilmer, John Malkovich, John Travolta & Jim Carrey..
JJ Sonny Chiba,Do not forget him.
Michelle Rodriguez(Fast and Furious,Resident Evil,S.W.A.T.,Avatar,Battle: Los Angeles)
My list of favorite actors for Expendables 3:
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson, Nicholas Cage, Kurt Russel, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Carl Weathers.
Wesley Snipes, Danny Trejo, Mark Dacascos, Michael Biehn, Clancy Brown, Peter Greene, Tom Sizemore All could play a good Bad Guy
Other mentionable 80-90′s stars (not mentioned above) that could be in The Expendables roster:
Don “The Dragon” Wilson (Bloodfist), Jeff Speakman (The Perfect Weapon), Cynthia Rothrock (China O’Brien), Christopher Lambert (Highlander), Rutger Hauer (Blind Fury), Jason Scott Lee (Dragon), Robin Shou (Mortal Kombat), Sammo Hung (Wheels On Meals), Yuen Biao (Dragons Forever), Rowdy Roddy Piper (They Live), Tim “Tiny” Lister (No Holds Barred), Kevin Costner (Waterworld), Sigourney Weaver (Aliens), Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Jeff Wincott (Martial Law), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Showdown in Little Tokyo)
