15 Creepiest Scenes In Comic Book Movie History

4. Tyrell Wears The Mask - The Mask

Jim Carrey's mid-90s smash hit The Mask may be a relatively light superhero romp for the most part, but things got pretty gnarly when the villainous gangster Dorian Tyrell got a hold of the magical Loki mask and put it on.

While Carrey's Stanley Ipkiss basically resembled a live-action cartoon character when he wore the mask, Tyrell instead looked like something out of a horror movie, the mask giving him a more muscular physique, terrifying red eyes, and a deep, demonic voice.

Oh, and when a rival gangster tries to have Tyrell whacked? The mask allows him to absorb the bullets and spit them back out at the guy, tearing him to shreds. Some family movie.

In terms of make-up and visual effects craft, all the Tyrell mask scenes are fantastically executed, even if they do jar a little compared to Carrey's more wacky tomfoolery earlier on.
