Framed around a university student making a documentary about her dementia-stricken grandmother, Deborah Logan, who's growing increasingly more violent as she succumbs to the disease, it quickly becomes apparent that it's more than just a medical illness causing Deborah to lash out at both others and herself.

Although the movie keeps you guessing, it's eventually revealed that she's actually becoming possessed by, uh... a snake monster. I swear it works much better in context.

Anyway, after countless scenes of cringe-inducing body horror, the finale goes into full-on supernatural territory, as the documentary team track down the rogue Deborah in the woods, jaw unhinged and in the process of swallowing a small child whole.

It could have gone so wrong in the hands of a lesser director, but after an hour of genuinely uncomfortable scares and the degradation of Deborah both mentally and physically, this brief moment of fantastical horror takes you by complete surprise.
