15 Most Shocking Moments In Found Footage Movies

14. The Final Haunting - Paranormal Activity

Though it caused a storm back in 2007, the original Paranormal Activity is incredibly tame when compared to later entries in the series, as well as the other found-footage movies it inspired.

Still, while it doesn't hold the same impact it once did, there's no denying just how powerful its understated story of a couple - Katie and Micah - being tormented by a vicious poltergeist was when it first released. Opting to surprisingly move away from pure jump-scares, a lot of the big set-pieces are actually subtle little details - a door slowly closing, a woman sleepwalking for hours at a time, and ghostly footprints being left around the home - but they were undeniably unnerving.

However, these non-violent sequences all build to a brilliantly anarchic crescendo, as the possessed Katie stands over her husband ominously for two hours before he follows her downstairs, only to be thrown at the camera as Katie returns, covered in blood. At the time, nobody had ever seen anything quite like it before, and although it's an ending that has been aped countless times now, it shook everyone who saw it in cinemas over a decade ago.
