The Spider-Man franchise has been a commercial juggernaut ever since its inception in 2002, currently standing tall as the sixth highest-grossing movie series of all time, even if for all intents and purpose the property is divided into two mini-franchises: Sam Raimi's more earnest, silly Spider-Man trilogy, and Marc Webb's grittier (though not necessarily better) Amazing Spider-Man series, which already has third and fourth installments in the works. As with just about any comic book movie franchise worth its salt, the Spider-Man movies are all jam-packed with clever visual and spoken references to various aspects of the Spider-Man mythos, be it forthcoming villains, famed comic book characters, or simply nods to members of the cast and crew who worked on the film. Hell, there are even obscure references to works of art in these movies, alongside blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameos and everything else in-between. Any time one of these movies releases, obsessive fans will comb through every frame looking for hidden visual allusions, and well aware that we love looking for them, directors are becoming better and better at hiding them. What's your favourite easter egg from the Spider-Man franchise? Let us know in the comments, and if you enjoyed this article, it's certainly worth checking out our comprehensive easter egg guide for the recent-released The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
