What could possibly be weirder than an actor cameoing in a movie more than a decade after their death? The magnificent Laurence Olivier made a posthumous appearance in Steven Soderbergh's divisive 2004 sci-fi adventure film as the villainous mad scientist Dr. Totenkopf.

Using footage from his early acting career, Soderbergh was able to manipulate a cameo performance out of the deceased actor, as he angrily asks the heroes why they've come to confront him.

Though the technology was relatively impressive back in 2004, it naturally raised huge ethical concerns about the use of a dead actor's image, and the quality of the effects don't exactly hold up today.

It's a straight-up oddity that neither elevates nor especially impacts the film: it's just there, and it's really, really weird.
