3 Major Things We Learnt From The First Alien: Covenant Image

1. A Raiders Of The Lost Ark Reference

A cool little easter egg, the design of the Covenant logo is a direct lift of the top of the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, which is just plain awesome (and a better reference to the Indy MacGuffin than that fan-baiting tease in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull).

Ostensibly it's a pretty obvious play on words (not that that makes it any less cool), but it does also tie neatly into the more mythological slant Scott's going for with the Alien prequels.

Prometheus' title was a clear allusion to how the film's plot reflected the legend of the titan (something that was really played up in the awesome viral media), and originally the sequel was going to be Alien: Paradise Lost. Where Covenant is going we'll have to wait and see, although you can bet it'll be something pretty thematically hefty. It may be rooted in a sci-fi horror, but the Alien franchise ain't just a few cheap scares.

Alien: Covenant is in cinemas from 4th August 2017.
