5 Ways To Improve The X-Men Timeline

To many it's either a deal breaker or a conundrum. It's the X-Men timeline, and here's the remedy.

Logan Xmen
20th Century Fox

With the release of Logan and the unanimous acclaim that has followed, there remains one glaring issue in the minds of casual viewers and fans alike: the fact that the timeline of the X-Men Universe is still very much riddled with contradictions and continuity errors.

Now, there are in-universe explanations for the certain events either happening entirely different or slightly so than before, such as the restructuring of all the characters' paths after Days of Future Past. For instance, recently in Logan it was said that no new mutants had been born in 25 years, yet five or six years earlier in the DoFP epilogue we witness children running around in the school. A possible in-universe explanation is that in Apocalypse, Xavier professed to Mystique that he planned to open the school to diversity and allow humans in as well, that could be one answer.

But there still lies issues such as characters being born in different eras and various other important origins being changed. The first word of advice would be to just embrace it and stop caring, to just take each film on its own merit and not judge it so critical but we filmgoers have come to expect an alignment in information, especially when following a series and that's what this list aims to do.

Here's 5 ways to improve the X-Men timeline.

5. Xavier

Logan Xmen
Fox

While this might not solve all of the issues, it is an interesting solution for certain events. Charles claimed in the first X-Men film that he first met Magneto when he was 17 but First Class went on to contradict that. What if some of the lapses in memory, if we want to call them that, are due to him using Beast's serum so that he could walk in DoFP?

This may also be the contributing factor in why he eventually loses his mind in the time before Logan. There's also the matter of Mystique being so connected to his past in the prequel trilogy yet this is never mentioned in the originals. You could even factor in him being blown to billions of pieces and transferring his mind into his twin brother as another reason, even if that does get affected by the time that is changed by DoFP.

If we are to see McAvoy's Xavier for a few more outings then perhaps they could eventually have a scene that mimics what occurred when he had his seizures in Logan. This could be when Beast suggests that it's a side-effect from his abuse of the serum. Again, it doesn't plug all the holes in the timeline but some with regard to Xavier.
