5 Ways To Improve The X-Men Timeline

4. Cable

Logan Xmen
Marvel Comics

With his forthcoming introduction in the Deadpool sequel and a potential future franchise in the X-Force to look forward to, Cable could be a believable and relevant option for the one who tampered with time initially, creating the veering timelines possibly even before DoFP occurred. Not to mention that he's probably the only in we have to getting X-23 in the modern movies. He'd have to pick her up from the future and bring her with him, maybe even making her the new Wolverine, since many are adverse to recasting Logan himself.

There's no telling how much of his origin from the comics they'll bother with but he does have some connections back to Apocalypse and there's always that possibility that he jumps too far in time before returning to the present and that creates a separate ripple all its own. That could lead to other stories or it could merely be his background, once we see him in the films. It's hard to say how much we'll get to know him in his first cinematic introduction but they could always dive deeper in X-Force later on.

The point is that you wouldn't necessarily need to show the event of him jumping too far into the past, he could just mention it in passing and that's the lead-in. But if they did show it, it could be something akin to what happened to Bruce Willis in 12 Monkeys, where he is unintentionally sent to World War I.

He could make this jump before the events of DoFP and basically end up creating a new timeline that appears to marry the others together and that could be why Trask is a totally different man and creates the Sentinels, as one example.
