6 Saving Graces Of Ben Affleck's Daredevil

4. Colin Farrell€™s Bullseye Is Surprisingly Charming

Colin Farrell€™s Bullseye will never be as iconic as Heath Ledger€™s Joker or Tom Hiddleston€™s Loki, but in a film with few shining performances he certainly stands out. Bullseye is a mercenary; he is hired by the Kingpin to kill his enemies. This makes him hard to sympathise with or see complexly as he is not dedicated to chaos like the Joker; neither does he have strong political beliefs like Magneto. All he wants is money, and although we can all understand this, it is hard to see everyone else as pursuing the same means to achieve it. Farrell plays the character with a unique charm; when we first meet him he becomes understandably irritated by the incessant talking of an elderly passenger on a plane. He then kills this passenger by flicking a peanut off the chair and into her throat, causing her to choke. This is a brutal way of killing someone, but Farrell gives the scene a watchable tone. Although Bullseye is the archetypal villain; dressed in leather, using gratuitous violence to combat criticism, he is also a villain who is fun to watch. Bullseye was a greater foe to Daredevil than Kingpin, and in comparison to contemporaries he stands out; he is far more comedic than Stryker in X-Men 2, or the Green Goblin in Spider-Man. This comedy is not constant-there are a number of times when Bullseye is a steadfast and resolute as Daredevil, yet the Irish charm of Farrell gives the film an extra boost, almost alleviating the weak character development of anyone apart from the titular character.
