2. Toy Story 3
When Toy Story 3 burst on the scene in 2010, everyone loved it. Topping both the list for box office gross and RottenTomatoes score, it was a hit with kids and the grown up original audience. But those whod rewatched the series in the build up couldn't help feel a little deja vu with the whole thing. Now Toy Story 3s crimes are nowhere near as bad as some of the films on this list, but its overarching theme is one Pixars defining series had already explored. In fact, I've covered this topic at length, most notably
here, but its worth repeating. The whole emotional drive of Toy Story 2, namely Andy growing out of his toys and moving on, was tragically covered in a much more succinct manner in the previous film, making this sugar coated solution feel superfluous. Even on a micro level, theres still many points lifted. Buzz back to his old ways was done more logical in 2 and a seemingly good scenario turning out bad was typical of the series. The change of director and time between films gives some sort of explanation, but when the echoes are so blatant its a little irritating. The one thing Toy Story 3 didn't steal from its predecessors was the brilliant Randy Newman songs; the one thing it should have taken.
