8. Wolverine 3 Will Be Hugh Jackman's Last X-Men Film

Hugh Jackman first donned Wolverine's iconic adamantium claws back in 2000, and has since played the character six times. His seventh outing arrives in just a few short weeks, when X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters. Jackman has played the role for so long, and embodied the character so well, that it's hard to imagine anyone else in those mutton chops. However, it's bound to happen someday, since Jackman is already 45, and can't stay in tip-top shape forever. Jackman will portray Wolverine at least two more times, with the already announced X-Men Apocalypse in 2016, and the third solo Wolverine film in March of 2017. According to Jackman, it looks like Wolverine 3 will end up being his last one. He recently spoke to SFX about the progress of the film, and said,
€œI haven€™t signed on signed on. I€™m genuinely at that point where unless it€™s better than the last one I€™m not going to do it. I don€™t know yet where Wolverine is going to go. We€™re talking it through though. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I€™m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me.€
As hard as it will be for someone else to fill his shoes, it will be interesting to see what becomes of the role once Jackman passes the torch. Do you think Wolverine will still be the main focus of the X-Men films without Jackman in the role? At this point we don't know, but until now he's kind of been the glue holding this shaky franchise together. In any case, at least we'll get to see him as Wolverine a couple more times, and hopefully see an Old Man Logan storyline in there somewhere. That would be a nice swan song, eh?
