8 Heroes Who Could Be The Marvel Cinematic Universe's First Gay Character

1. Spider-Man

Obviously our new Spidey is cast and his initial storylines and character arcs are almost definitely mapped out, so this is very unlikely to happen - but, If Marvel REALLY want to make statement about how progressive they are, this is the way to do it.

Changing Spider-Man's sexuality would be a lot trickier than a character like Doctor Strange, however. Though Peter Parker is far from defined by the fact that he's straight, he has had a string of female lovers that have been integral to some of his most character defining arcs. Do they substitute MJ for Flash Thompson? Gwen for Harry Osborn? Nope - simply make coming to terms with his sexuality a part of Peter's struggle.

As a teenager, he's going to be a bit reserved about it anyway so it makes more sense that this wouldn't be quite an "out and proud" type situation. So Mj or Gwen can still be utilized as main characters, but when he's with them maybe Peter finds his eyes wandering towards the guy's locker room, setting up something that he'll have to deal with in the sequel.

Hey, makes a change from rescuing the damsel in distress from Green Goblin for the umpteenth time anyway!
