8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

SUPER FRIENDS!!!

"What's at the cinema this week?" asks no one, ever. Instead of what's going to be hitting the multiplex this Friday, the big talking point nowadays is what's going to be there a year on Friday. Heck, Summer 2015 hasn't even come to a close yet and everyone's already getting super amped for the next five Star Wars, ten Marvel and eleven DC movies set to hit before the decade's out. With the media blitzkrieg surrounding every one of these new releases (and more) stretching on for so long, it's easy to feel a bit lethargic about them when they finally turn up; by the time Suicide Squad hits next August, everyone's no doubt already going to already be looking forward to 2018. This constant forward thinking brings with it a distinct lack of surprise; every step of a movie's development is detailed online from conception, spoilers be damned. And if the production leaks from sites like Heroic Hollywood (keep up the good work, Mr. Gonzalez) don't give away the big details, you can bet the movie studios will, with trailer after trailer detailing a film's plot months ahead of time; Avengers: Age Of Ultron was robbed of all surprises thanks to four trailers and fifty-six TV spots (seriously) and Paramount turned Terminator Genisys' big twist (and single interesting idea) into the crux of the marketing campaign. What does that mean for those much-anticipated future releases then? It'd seem like we already know what's going down, right? Well, don't be so smug. Not only are the likes of J.J. Abrams and Christopher Nolan striving to maintain that beloved air of mystery, but so often what the online film journalism spectrum expects from heavily-reported movies is a little off the mark. Here are eight movies where word from the filmmakers suggests they'll be pretty different from what everyone's getting hyped about (for better or worse).
