9 Awesome 80s Kid's Movies You Probably Forgot

8. Animalympics (1980)

Originally conceived as a two-part parody of the Olympic Games, this 78 minute piece of gold is a precursor to what Pixar now do so well in that it can be enjoyed as much by adults as it can by kids.

This could be attributed, in part, to the presence of one burgeoning talent named Brad Bird as an animator on the movie. It is not hard to imagine that he would have learnt from his experiences on Animalympics and taken them with him to Pixar. The humour is incredibly cleverly written and, despite the lack of a conventional story, the film is very entertaining.

The awesome vocal cast, including Billy Crystal, Harry Shearer (of Simpsons fame), and Gilda Radner, help to bring real personality to the vast array of animal characters – Henry Hummel, Barbra Warblers, Bolt Jenkins, Kurt Wufner, and Kit Mumbo to name but a few!

A phenomenal soundtrack by Graham Gouldman of 10cc fame only serves to bolster the characters and their individual stories contained within. I defy anyone to not be singing these songs for days after viewing.
