His Avengers 4 Fate: Rhodey and Bucky are very similar. Both are best friends with a far more popular and powerful Avenger, both have similar abilities to that Avenger, and both have more or less run out of steam in the story department.
Rhodey was an integral part of the Iron Man trilogy, but since then, he hasn't really done anything of note, besides being blasted out of the sky by Vision. He feels like the perfect candidate to be killed off, but then again, Marvel just gave him a near-death accident in Civil War; to actually off him so soon would feel a little predictable.
But because he's been so underused in recent movies, he's poised to take on a much bigger role within the MCU. Avengers 4 may be the end of Tony Stark's Iron Man, so someone has to fill that snarky, maverick, metal-suited void, right? The newest iteration of the Avengers team could use someone like Rhodey on their side.
So, the character will survive Avengers 4, and because of his combat skills, tactical expertise and all-round experience, he'll continue Avenging for the foreseeable future.
