The Avengers 2 Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker Thomas Kretschmann 1 Look at The Avengers 2 cast and you'd be forgiven for thinking the villains are looking a bit outnumbered in comparison to the overwhelming number of superheroes who're making an appearance. So it's good to see that besides Ultron (and presumably somewhere in the background, Thanos) the number of supervillains is growing with the addition of German actor Thomas Kretschmann who was recently cast as Baron Von Strucker. Strucker is the head of HYDRA, a Nazi-like global organisation created in the dying days of WW2. HYDRA (though capitalised, it's not an acronym) has been a constant threat in the Marvel Universe as they, like any decent group of villains, repeatedly attempt plans of world domination, fail, and try again. HYDRA are in many ways the quintessential villainous organisation in the Marvel Universe where groups like AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics €“ the former science division of HYDRA) and the Secret Empire originally started before they moved away and became separate organisations. It's global reach and massive membership makes them a kind of evil version of SHIELD and Strucker as Fury's opposite. With Kretschmann signing on for multiple movie appearances, it looks like Baron Wolfgang von Strucker is going to be a regular sight for Marvel movie audiences €“ but what do Marvel have to do to get the character right?
