3. Thanos For Dummies

The trailer opens with narration by Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who explains Thanos (Josh Brolin) to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). She says, "The entire time I knew him, he only ever had one goal. To wipe out half the universe", before re-iterating that he needs to get the Infinity Stones to accomplish his goal.

Uh, doesn't everybody know that already?

Clearly this opening gambit was mandated by Marvel Studios execs just to make sure even the most casual cinemagoer has no excuse not to see the movie or be confused about what's going on. The big purple guy wants his precious gems to wipe out half the universe. Got it. Why waste precious trailer time on it?

With Disney clearly hoping for a $2 billion payday here, they want to make sure they have their broadest, lowest common denominator bases covered.

It just plays as rather clumsy and expository, but hopefully it'll make more sense in the context of the complete scene, as these awkward, isolated moments often do.
