Batman V Superman: 9 Major Reveals From The New Images

8. Superman's Arrival Helps Change Ben Affleck's "F**ked Up" Batman

When we meet Bruce Wayne in Batman V Superman, it doesn't sound like he's in a good place. Affleck describes his take on the character as being an "older, more broken, kind of f**ked up Batman." He also emphasises a focus on the hero's vigilante traits and the fact that he's reached a point where he's crossing the line to protect people (that could explain why the trailer revealed that he's branding those he captures). However, it appears as if Superman's arrival is going to change everything. While the actor confirmed that Batman initially targets the Man of Steel with that same vigilante mindset, director Zack Snyder explains: "Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: 'I've been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.' In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn't matter." It's obvious then that taking on what he initially perceives to be a global threat is going to set Batman on the path to stepping out of the shadows and fighting for the world as a member of the Justice League. Interestingly, Snyder points out that when the idea of including Batman first came up, they thought of him almost as the villain of the movie (which was originally going to be a Man of Steel sequel). However, as the script developed, it will now be up to the audience to decide who they believe to be in the right.
