Batman vs Superman: 10 Reasons Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor Is All Wrong

5. Eisenberg Has Even Bigger Shoes To Fill - Gene Hackman

More big shoes to fill I'm afraid. Many fans still hold up the original Superman movie from 1978 as the best adaptation so far and therefore see Gene Hackman as the definitive Lex Luthor, despite his more light-hearted take on the role. Sure, his comedic approach may not have aged particularly well, but Hackman's performance is now legendary amongst fans of the franchise. Today, Gene Hackman is one of the acting greats, yet even by 1978, Hackman already had an Oscar for Best Actor and another two supporting actor nominations under his belt, bringing a huge amount of credibility to a film many would have seen as childish at the time. Comic books have since gained a more mature audience, but does Eisenberg have what it takes to match the respect that Hackman brought to the role? Once again, this fan is doubtful.
