Why he should be considered: Johnnie To has a gift with balancing out the different parts of a given film with carefully placed elements of gunplay and humor. He is known for his crime movies (which would be a plus for Bond) but also knows how to take those tried-and-true tropes and put a spin on them, making them totally fresh and unpredictable. If you havent seen or heard of Mad Detective, seek it out immediately (a semi-sequel Blind Detective is playing at this years Cannes Film Festival). It is one of the most original crime films I have watched in a long time and once you see it, you will understand why he is on this list.
