Widely considered to be the most prestigious film festival on earth, the 2019 Cannes film festival wrapped up on Saturday 25th May for another year.

Cannes often falls short in terms of providing mainstream hits or awards contenders the way Sundance, Venice or Toronto do, but this year saw a few high profile movies take the red carpet and a few runaway hits dominate the critical scene.

With many of 2019's festivals still to come, early buzz from Cannes sets a precedent for what to expect from this year in film. Be sure to look out for these in the coming months.

Probably the most anticipated movie going into Cannes and the most talked about coming out of it, Quentin Tarantino's ninth film Once Upon A Time in Hollywood saw all sorts of buzz for all sorts of reasons.

First and foremost, the star presence on the red carpet thanks to its stacked cast was second to none - with Leonardo DiCaprio front and centre in his first film role since his Oscar winning role in The Revenant nearly four years ago.

Tarantino movies are always events, and the nothing but positive reactions from critics at the festival show no signs of this one being an exception.

Tarantino made all kinds of news this festival season, from requesting that critics not spoil his movie to the polarising critical opinions on Margot Robbie's amount of lines is the film and Tarantino's response to such questions. This is bound to be a big contender and a dominant force following its release in July.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
