Deadline are reporting that 20th Century Fox’s ‘Daredevil’ reboot, which is to be directed by David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days Of Night, Hard Candy) has found itself a new writer in the form of David James Kelly.
He will re-write the original script from Fringe writer Brad Caleb Kane which director Slade last year called “amazing”. So hopefully the re-write is to bring down the budget or tighten the dialogue or something as it sounded like they had a sold story worked on.
The untitled reboot is supposedly going to follow the “Born Again” run of Daredevil comics which ran from issue #227-233, written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. In this classic story arc Daredevil falls to insanity and poverty at the hands of the Kingpin, who after learning of Daredevil’s secret identity sets out on a path of destruction to ruin Matt Murdock’s life – slowly, and methodically.
The lack of all round success of 2003′s ‘Daredevil’ starring Ben Affleck surely meant that a reboot was going to happen, it was just a case of waiting. For 20th Century Fox, it seems that time is now before Disney’s lawyers start asking questions as Fox’s license with the character on film only lasts whilst they are “creatively moving forward”. This is the same reason why they are going at lightning pace to get a Fantastic Four reboot off the ground with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank currently spearheading.
As of yet no actor is attached to the lead role of Daredevil and as long as they are still working on the script there probably won’t be
No release date has been confirmed as of yet, but expect a 2014/2015 date to be most likely.
