Anyone expecting to see a Deadpool cameo in James Mangold's exceptional Logan will be sadly disappointed when the credits roll on Hugh Jackman's last stand as Wolverine. Well, they would be if they weren't a little pre-occupied with trying to stop the tear flowing, anyway. But the rumour that there would be a Wolverine/Deadpool team-up weren't entirely off base.
That mysterious 3 minutes of added run-time for Logan ended up coming in the shape of a Deadpool 2 teasing short film, directed by new sequel helmer David Leitch, who clearly has a handle on how to do the character right.
The short - which definitely borrows something of Zack Snyder's Watchmen aesthetic - is as hilarious and outrageous as you'd expect. It's a great way to sell the character again, and to establish that the film will absolutely follow on from Tim Miller's original, despite the creative differences that saw him leave the project.
Somewhat inevitably, the short is full of Deadpool-esque eclectic nods to 1980s culture, 'Pool's own comic lore and some other, stranger choices including a Marvel/DC mash-up that should raise some eyebrows. Just don't expect the clip to actually appear in the sequel...
