Every Wolverine Movie Performance Ranked Worst To Best

Yes, even that incredible cameo.

Wolverine Hugh Jackman
Fox

For over fifteen years Hugh Jackman has graced our screens as arguably the most famous comic book mutant ever, Wolverine. While many superheroes have gone through multiple iterations on-screen (looking at you, Spidey) Jackman has consistently remained an integral part of the X-Men series, beloved by audiences around the world.

At last, however, it seems that Jackman is ready to hang up the adamantium claws for good (don't ask about the logistics of that, just roll with it). His final performance as Wolverine is tipped to be in 2017's Logan, a film set in a distant future when there are very few mutants remaining.

The film looks fantastic, interested in exploring Logan on a much deeper (and more tragic) level than we've ever seen in the past. Before it releases, however, let's take a look back over every one of Jackman's Wolverine appearances, exploring whether they worked and ranking them from worst to best.

8. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine Hugh Jackman
Fox

X-Men Origins was a noble venture. The intention was to take a more singular look at some of the most iconic mutants, exploring their backstory in greater detail and examining what made them the characters later seen in the X-Men series. Sadly, this attempt was born and died with a single film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Origins is by far the worst iteration of Wolverine depicted on-screen. For all of Hugh Jackman's usual badassery there are scenes of cheesy melodrama. Nobody wants to see Wolverine cradle a dead body and scream "Nooooooooooooooooo!" into a rising camera. That's not to say Wovlerine shouldn't show emotion, but it shouldn't be so awfully ham-fisted.

The main problem with Origins is that Wolverine never really emerges as a singular character. We see him as a kid, as a soldier in multiple wars, as a lumberjack and then as a renegade mutant. His arc is never coherent, and that just isn't satisfying.
