Ghostbusters Trailer Breakdown: 25 Things You Need To See

Wait, there's time travel?!

Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot has been a controversial project since the very start. Rebooting the classic movie in the first place was a risky prospect, and doing so without bringing back any of the original cast in starring roles only further distanced the fans. And that's saying nothing of the cast that's replaced them - although it shouldn't be that big a deal, gender-swapping the titular team has gone down poorly in some parts of the internet. Now the trailer's finally hit, and to call divisive would be an understatement; at the time of writing it has more dislikes than likes on YouTube, a pretty impressive feat. How much of that is just residual distaste from the casting isn't clear, but even so there's a few niggling take-aways here, with several big jokes that don't really land as well as intended. But is it right to crucify the movie from the off? Or is there some hidden genius in there? And what can we learn about the movie's plot? Let's break it down and find out.

25. Tying Into The Original

Ghostbusters is a reboot, not a sequel. That's been the essential mantra for this film - even though the original cast are set to appear, they're presumed to be characters totally distinct from Venkman and Ray; this is, for all intents and purposes a new universe. Or maybe not. The trailer opens up with text cards proclaiming "30 years ago four scientists saved New York". Aside from disregarding Ghostbusters II (can't blame 'em), this places new 'Busters in the same world as the Bill Murray original - so we're in for something similar to Jurassic World.
We even get a look at the original crew's headquarters, the iconic firehouse (its iconic status was proven recently by being transformed into a LEGO set).
One final clue towards this indeed being the same world is this graffiti'd Ghostbusters logo, implying this isn't the first time we've seen ghosts around and about New York. Also note how this is in the subway, a location that will be pretty important in the movie.
