Gwyneth Paltrow: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

On which side does Pepper Potts fall?

Everybody hates Gwyneth Paltrow. Except Chris Martin - they're still really close after their amicable split and totally aren't putting it on for the cameras. Egotistical to the extreme, Paltrow has become a key press hate figure, and it's really not hard to get swept up in it all - she's so out of touch with the general public that to declare her arrogant is a disservice to self-aware knobheads. But in all the celebrity hoo-ha it's easy to lose sight of Paltrow as an actress. Does her less-than-stellar reputation hide an impressive filmography full of nuanced turns? She is an Oscar winner, after all. Well, the short answer is no. The terrible performances more than out-weigh the good, although it's less a case of being a bad actress and more to do with consistently picking average roles. Her latest film, Mortdecai, is out this week and sees her deliver a performance that ranks as one of her absolute worst (although at least she fares better than Johnny Depp, who takes the whole "use a funny voice and have some silly hair" trick to self-caricature levels). Half as an antidote to, and half to wallow in, her latest dud, here are five awesome Gwyneth Paltrow performances and five that sucked.
