Iron Man 3 Trailer: 5 Major Talking Points

1. Tony's Got A Hangover

One thing that would always represent a major talking point for Iron Man 3 was the transition between the Avengers movie and Marvel's Phase 2 of individual movies, and how the scripters would be able to bring each individual away from the collective in a way that was satisfactory and entertaining. The worst thing that could have happened would have been either ignoring the fact that the events of the Avengers movie happened at all, or leaving enough space in the narrative for fans to wonder why the Hulk doesn't just turn up and smash everything into a pulp to help his buddy. Thankfully the trailer concentrates on Tony's emotional state after New York - dealing with Agent Coulson's death no doubt, though it isn't explicitly mentioned - and suggests that the character is forcing himself into himself, creating an insularity that will account for his removal from the other Avengers and making him vulnerable to devastating attacks on multiple fronts. That will presumably allow him to be removed from the picture by his enemies, making War Machine as Iron Patriot's public replacement of Iron Man a necessity (hence the guard of honour?), and explaining that murky shot at the end where Stark appears to be in the middle of nowhere dragging something or someone behind him. The story then, will presumably focus on Stark's return, and his personal quest for vengeance - as hinted in the official synopsis for the film - taking on those who destroyed his world, and rediscovering himself in the process. Sounds slightly familiar... Let's hope it doesn'tc completely devolve into a Taken variant where Tony uses his particular set of skills to go and reclaim his love from the hands of shady international villains.
