Iron Man 3 Trailer: 5 Major Talking Points

2. No More ACDC

As a major fan of ACDC, and of the association between the character and their music, it feels like a massive shame that this trailer, and by implication the movie in general will be moving away from that sort of soundtrack. One of my personal highlights of the Avengers movie was Iron Man's arrival in Germany to thwart Loki, which was met, somewhat inexplicably, but still wonderfully with the tub-thumping accompaniment of the Ozzy band's "Shoot To Thrill" - it was silly yes, but it suited the occasion, and the tone of the character in that movie. That isn't to say that change of music is a mistake though - this film is necessarily the story of Stark's maturity, and the clearly heavy emotional implications of his situation at the start of the film, as well as the impact of Mandarin's appearance and however Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian brings his Extremis virus to the table obviously needed something more grand and less cartoonish for accompaniment. The operatic theme works well as part of the trailer, especially in transmitting the sense of dread Marvel and Shane Black are clearly going for.
