Jaws: 9 Easters Eggs You Never Noticed

5. Steven Spielberg Has A Subtle Vocal Cameo

Jaws Quint Death
Universal Pictures

Steven Spielberg himself makes a tiny blink-and-you’ll-miss it appearance in Jaws, playing the voice of the radio operator patching Ellen Brody through to The Orca. As the men are in the middle of the hunt an irritated Quint takes her call, rattles off a bunch of lies about how the mission is going well before abruptly hanging up.

It’s a subtle appearance by the director, who has never really been into the acting side of the business. Throughout his career he’s only a few, mostly silent appearances in the likes of Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, Gremlins and Vanilla Sky.

His most notable acting role to date is that of the nerdy office clerk at the end of The Blues Brothers, which was just big enough to prove his considerable talents lay elsewhere.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
