Jaws: 9 Easters Eggs You Never Noticed

2. The Deaths of Quint And The Shark Are Heavily Foreshadowed

Jaws Quint Death
Universal Pictures

“This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go.”

That line comes from Quint in his introductory scene, where he's tries to convince the people of Amity to hire him to kill the shark. He doesn't know how right he is, as this is exactly what happens when he slides into the shark's mouth in the climax. His Moby Dick like obsession with sharks means he was always destined for a bad end, and when rewatching the film his line becomes chillingly ironic.

The demise of the shark is also foreshadowed a few times. The first is when Brody is flipping through a book on sharks and one is seen chewing on a scuba tank. And again when Brody knocks over an air tank, causing an irritated Hooper to whine that messing with them could make the tanks blow up. Quint then remarks the shark would probably just eat the tank if it got hold of one.

Bruce later does just that, and ends up regretting it.
