Man Of Steel: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

Wayne Man Of Steel changed a lot of things about Superman. One thing it didn't change was that the films aren't very good. The initial trailers for Man Of Steel, the latest attempt to get the blander half of DC's key players to work on the big screen evoked none other than Batman himself. With sweeping shots and a somber, brooding tone, audiences were led to anticipate something incredibly Nolanish. So when the film finally arrived in cinemas last week there was a sucker punch to people€™s expectations as it became apparent this was well and truly (the clearly less talented) Zack Snyder€™s show. Personally, I found the whole thing a rather dumb and boring affair. Falling into the same trap as last year€™s The Amazing Spider-Man, the first half of the film was an interesting adaptation of the character, exploring what makes him feel for humans, but halfway through it seemed Snyder balked and threw in as much nonsensical plot and repetitive action as the budget would allow. Comparing the emotional death of Jonathan Kent to the endless smashing of Metropolis (where the residents seemed unwilling to run away from the destruction) is like comparing two different films and therein lies the problem; when it€™s good, it€™s really good, but when it€™s bad, it€™s sleep inducing. Very surprising the script is written by The Dark Knight mastermind David S. Goyer. Be that as it may, there€™s no denying Snyder€™s paid close attention to the source material. As with Watchmen before it, Man Of Steel is full of Easter Eggs and pieces of juicy trivia just waiting to be unearthed. Mixing together background references to DC comics and unexpected coincidences, here are ten things about Man Of Steel that you could have missed in a first watching. Naturally, SPOILERS for Man Of Steel abound, so for those of you yet to check it out, bookmark this page and come back after you've seen the movie.
