10. Jor-El Has As Many Oscars As Lincoln
One thing I will praise Man Of Steel for is its cast. Although Cavill himself has done very little previously, the caliber of the cast surrounding him is incredible; Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Lawrence Fishburne have all been nominated for Oscars. But only one of the major actors has ever bagged a golden baldie. Russel Crowes Jor-El, a role lovingly expanded by Goyer, is the films highlight. Winning his Oscar over a decade ago, he still brings with him a clout that has everyone in awe of him (unless hes singing). If youre getting a feeling of deja vu with this, dont worry; it was a very similar story on the first Superman. Holding two Oscars to his name, Marlon Brando is considered one of the greatest actors of all time, a title he had already secured when he starred as Jor-El in Superman: The Movie. Taking a whopping $3.7 million and over 10% of the film's profits (something that eventually caused friction between him and Warner Bros.), he was as instrumental in getting that film taken seriously as Crowe was for Man Of Steel. These high caliber actors, with three Oscars between them, make Jor-El possibly the most rewarded character in superhero movie history, matching new joint supremo Daniel Day Lewis.
