In its own way, among all the other things it was busy doing, the Guardians sequel was a bit of an origin story for the gold-skinned Sovereign High Priestess. At the start of the film, she and her people had hired the Guardians to deal with the Abilisk monster in exchange for Nebula, a fair trade blown by Rocket, who stole the very batteries they had been tasked with protecting.

Understandably so, Ayesha demanded retribution, with her fleet catching up to and nearly defeating the Guardians before Ego intervened, after which she hired Yondu to track them. Of course, that didn't shake out either, and Ayesha's passion to destroy the Guardians was allowed to burn even brighter after yet another failed assault on Ego's planet. Last we saw of her, she had begun breeding her own Sovereign creation to hopefully defeat her new enemies once and for all: Adam Warlock.

Had Rocket not stolen the batteries, life would have gone on, but instead his act turned the arrogant Ayesha into a threat none of us have seen the last of. Elizabeth Debicki shined pretty brightly in what screen-time she was given, with Ayesha's appearance and personality undeniably memorable, and it's hard not to be excited to see what the future holds for her and Adam.
