Time to get hyped for the start of the franchise's second decade.

2019 marks the start of the second decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and what a year it's shaping up to be. Though 2018 sucker-punched fans with the cancellation of Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist over on Netflix, the year overall turned out pretty solid. It set a high bar for the new year, which 2019 looks to meet as it brings to an end one era of the franchise and kicks off an all new one.

Aside from the obvious hype surrounding the conclusion to last summer's epic Infinity War with the arrival of Avengers: Endgame in April, the MCU will continue to spread its wings on the big screen and small. There are a number of projects that'll see the emergence of brand new heroes - and all the allies, villains, and otherwise they'll be bringing with them - and take us along on the ongoing adventures of characters we already know and love.

Excluding some confirmed projects that we may not be seeing until 2020 at the earliest, like the previously announced shows for characters like Loki, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and more meant for the Disney+ service, let's focus on what we know we can look forward to in 2019 and break down why they're worth getting excited for, though be warned, as spoilers lay ahead...

9. New Warriors: Season 1

Release Date: TBD

Now, since we're excluding the Disney+ projects from this list as they have no confirmed release window yet, the inclusion of the first season of New Warriors here is admittedly a bit of a cheat. Several years have now gone by where it's been hard not to say, "This is the year it finally releases," only to be disappointed, as the series - which had its pilot shot near the end of 2017 - has only been bounced around ever since as Marvel searches for a home.

Despite that, this will hopefully - emphasis on "hopefully" - be the year that sees New Warriors finally come to light, as showrunner Kevin Biegel has demonstrated his passion for these characters ever since he was hired on and seeing what he can deliver is long overdue. Confirmed characters like Squirrel Girl, Mister Immortal, Speedball, Night Thrasher, and more could inject some new flavor into the television side of the MCU, particularly now that the Netflix era is coming to an end.

Unlike the Most Wanted pilot, which was shot in 2016 before being definitively put out to pasture, or how Damage Control seemingly faded into nonexistence, the fact that no one wants to confirm that New Warriors is really dead leaves enough hope for its future. With Freeform having passed and Netflix out of the picture, it could find its way to Hulu (alongside Runaways) or even launch with the Disney+ service by the end of the year so that fans can finally see this long-awaited project for themselves.
