Matthew Vaughn Officially Back To Direct X-Men: First Class Sequel

But we don't yet know if it will be his next film as he is currently developing a film out of Mark Millar & Dave Gibbons' forthcoming comic The Secret Service.

Deadline say 20th Century Fox has just closed a deal that secures the return of Matthew Vaughn to direct a sequel to his 2011 comic book movie X-Men: First Class. Simon Kinberg, who wrote X-Men 3: The Last Stand who produced the last movie was hired in November to write the script which Bryan Singer shall once again produce. All the cast from last summer's movie signed multi-picture deals (something Michael Fassbender alluded to in recent interviews) so you can expect everyone who survived and were major players in the last movie to return for another outing. We've also got something of a keen idea for how Vaughn plans to present the world of the sequel (his idea, at least last summer was for the JFK assassination and the civil rights movement to play a part) from what the director told us in previous interviews. What we don't know is whether X-Men: First Class will be Vaughn's next movie. We know he is currently working on the screenplay for The Secret Service, an adaptation of the super mysterious comic book series that Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons will be unleashing onto the world in a couple of months time. Last we heard that was going to be his next movie, which it could still be, but I imagine Fox want X-Men: Second Class (or whatever it ends up being called) to film in 2013 for a release 2014.
