MCU: 14 Things You Learn Rewatching The Avengers

9. Tony Gets The Best Line

Tony Stark The Avengers
Marvel Studios

When he comes face to face with Loki in his tower, Tony Stark gets the best line of the whole movie:

"There's no throne, there is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us but it's all on you. Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damned well sure we'll avenge it!"

There are lots of these Whedon moments in the script (and the "we have a Hulk" moment is pretty high up there too), but this just about eclipses Loki's speeches and his threats to Black Widow for the stand out.

Again, there's a little distracting element to Tony, though. When he first appears, he's flicking the switch on Stark Tower becoming self-sustaining under water. His armour works fine, but later in Iron Man 3 one of his Iron Legion armours is developed to allow him to operate underwater, which would be entirely redundant if he already could.
