MCU: Ryan Coogler Confirmed To Write & Direct Black Panther 2
As if there was any doubt, Coogler is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ryan Coogler is Wakanda forever.
It's been confirmed that Coogler is indeed returning to write and direct Black Panther 2, following the huge success of the first movie when it released earlier this year.
It's been expected for a while that the Creed director would return, given the movie was a critical success, made $1.3bn at the box-office, was a cultural event, and is receiving a massive Oscars push from Disney, but word comes from The Hollywood Reporter that a deal is now done.
According to their report, Coogler is set to write the script next year, with the plan then being to start production late-2019 or early-2020. The deal was apparently closed recently, with Coogler choosing to take his time before committing to anything, rather than the typical way directors often sign on immediately after a movie's release.
Marvel's future slate is largely unknown - only Spider-Man: Far From Home has a firm release date of the Phase 4 movies - but given how big Black Panther is, you'd expect Marvel would want the sequel to arrive sooner rather than later (there's a good chance it'll be February 2021), while bringing back most of the same creative team as well.
