Oscars 2013: 10 Things The Academy Got Wrong

And that's all she wrote for another year! Indeed, the 85th Academy Awards concluded just a few short hours ago, and though Argo took Best Picture honours just as expected, it was a relatively unpredictable night as far as many of the other awards went. The show itself included a number of surprises, ones which whether good or bad are no doubt well-written into the history of Oscar forever more. Though Seth Macfarlane did a (mostly) able job as host, and the right film walked away with the highest honour of all, one can't quite help but think that, as always, the Academy, both in terms of awards and the production of the show, made plenty of simple slip-ups that meant the show didn't quite reach its truly entertaining and rewarding potential. Here are 10 things the Academy got wrong at this year's Oscars...

10. Seth MacFarlane's 'We Saw Your Boobs' Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwDZFqW75_0 I'm all for Seth MacFarlane playing the irreverent Oscar host, shaking up the usual stuffiness associated with the show, and though this undeniably worked for his simple gags and jokes, once MacFarlane started singing during the introductory sequence, he completely lost me. After a time-travelling William Shatner shows up and informs MacFarlane that he becomes known as the worst Oscar host ever for singing an insulting song about actresses in the nude, we're then treated to that song, which was at once grating and extremely infantile. Yes, we get it, Kate Winslet gets naked in just about everything, but did we really need a few minutes of the broadcast dedicated to this? It doesn't so much seem hip and edgy as it does tacky and crass; can we please just get to the damn awards now? MacFarlane might have a strong set of pipes, but how about using them on something actually worth the rehearsals, or not bothering at all?
