Ranking: 10 Highest Grossing Movies Of Summer 2017

10. The Mummy

The Mummy
Universal

Box Office: $405.4 million (#8 highest-grossing)

Though it didn't deliver the killer box office opening Universal was clearly banking on, Tom Cruise's The Mummy reboot nevertheless delivered a solid enough return to land in the top 10 movies of the summer, in large part thanks to its Chinese haul (where it made almost 25% of its profit).

Money be-damned, though, this was a thoroughly lackluster effort, with Cruise's usual ferocious commitment to his projects proving nowhere to be found, while the supporting cast were similarly squandered, save for a deliciously hammy Russell Crowe.

The action, plot and characters were all vastly inferior to the Brendan Fraser movies, suffering from a huge poverty of charm, taking itself far too seriously and attempting to build a cinematic universe with an overwhelming, putrid whiff of desperation. No thanks.
