An exceedingly lame spin-off from The Conjuring which doesn't even begin to make the most of its possessed doll premise, Annabelle is about as good a movie as one should expect from the director of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
From the dull characters through to the pronounced lack of scares or even basic suspense, this is a stunningly boring film that follows the most bland studio horror formula, while the inevitable nods to the likes of Rosemary's Baby feel shallow and half-baked.
Aside from a compelling performance by Oscar-nominee Alfre Woodard, there's just nothing here for anyone but the most easily satisfied genre fan.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
