Box Office: Originally intended as a straight-to-video film, Entertainment Studios instead bought the rights and smartly gambled on a theatrical release, resulting in the $5 million horror grossing almost $50 million to date.

More-than doubling initial box office projections, this is yet more compelling proof of the horror genre's buoyancy with audiences.

Verdict: The low-fi thriller about two women trapped in a shark cage on the ocean floor touts some undeniably effective sequences and makes clever use of its low budget, smartly employing CGI sharks only occasionally.

There's a pretty laughable twist in the final third, though, and it never quite graduates beyond feeling like the tawdry straight-to-video movie that it basically is.
