Ranking The Bourne Movie Franchise From Worst To Best

4. The Bourne Identity

The jump in quality between Legacy and Identity is quite stunning, so there's not really too much ignominy in coming fourth.

The Bourne Identity was the film that launched the franchise and the character, perfectly timed as a palate-cleanser after Bond had become too bloated and silly, and offering a stripped down, stark violence that was as shocking as it was exhilarating.

The Man With No Name story was also great, obviously, but in hindsight, the decision to let Doug Liman direct and the serious over-use of shaky camera work actually distracts from the simple, effective story. To the director's credit though, he fought studio interference and his minimalist action proved to be the film's biggest selling point
