Spider-Man: 10 Reasons Sony Should Fire Andrew Garfield

5. The Franchise Needs A Clean Break

The franchise as it stands is virtually unsalvageable. The second film was a cluttered mess filled with bizarre plot points, chockfull with villains and lacking in any strong story. Sony initially planned to start an expanded Spider-Man universe with this movie, but now it seems as though the only salvation would be through yet another reboot. The studio planted easter eggs towards a Sinister Six movie, with Doc Ock's arms and Vulture's wings appearing, but this flailing franchise needs to be stopped now. This isn€™t advocating another retelling of Parker€™s origin story - pretty much everyone who has been to a cinema in the last fifteen years knows this story by now - but the studio needs to put this shipwreck behind it. Forget about the weird plot with Peter€™s parents, and put the prospective Sinister Six project in the bin. They need to start afresh with a brand new project, and this can only be done by scrapping what they already have. They really need to take Marvel€™s advice - like Robert Redford said in Captain America: The Winter Soldier; €œsometimes to build a better world, you have to tear the old one down.€ It€™d probably be best to avoid the Hydra inspired global domination bit though.
