Spider-Man: 10 Reasons Sony Should Fire Andrew Garfield

6. He€™s Simply Too Cool

Peter Parker is meant to be a bullied teenager, not a cool, parkour loving, skateboarder. The character is a science geek and proud of it. Garfield is the epitome of cool in the Amazing Spider-Man movies. He was pretty suave while sneaking around Oscorp prior to being bitten by the spider, and he is hardly picked on at school, aside from when he defends someone being bullied. Sadly, this praise for Garfield is why he needs to go. Spider-Man is the witty, extroverted other side of Peter Parker, juxtaposing the twin personalities of the same guy. Spider-Man in Sony€™s latest attempt is just an extension of Peter, with the same personality and the same witty comments. Garfield has done a spectacular job of bringing this to life, but this isn€™t in keeping with the character. Comic book heroes are cool, but this doesn€™t mean that their alter egos should be as well. Sony needs to eject Garfield and find someone who has the proper geek look if they want to perform a soft reboot and save the sinking franchise. Being too cool has let Garfield down in this role, as bizarre as that sounds.
