Star Trek Into Darkness: 10 More Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed

Star Trek Into Darkness

J.J. Abrams might by his own admission not have been the biggest Star Trek fan growing up, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been able to craft a gleefully reverent film packed with references to Trek lore, and indeed, that's exactly what he's done with the sequel to his glorious reboot, Star Trek Into Darkness. For the last few weeks, Trekkies have been avidly reporting every reference they caught during their eighteen viewings of the film, and have even been arguing about what this and that reference means. Message boards all over the Internet have uncovered some great surprises, though perhaps the one that elludes viewers most to date is Abrams' confession that R2D2 makes another appearance in the Trek universe with this film (he is visible during Abrams' first Trek), not one that audiences have yet to catch, apparently (wait for the Blu-ray). In the mean time, if you've already seen out first article about things you might have missed in Star Trek Into Darkness, check out these 10 more below...

10. Alcatraz

Star Trek Into Darkness Alright, now this could just be a coincidence, but when we're dealing with J.J. Abrams, I rarely believe that. A scene during Star Trek Into Darkness features Khan crashing the Vengeance into San Francisco, and there's a very deliberate focus on the fact that he smashes into Alcatraz island during his descent. Many might simply believe this to be a reference to the famous landmark, but don't forget that Abrams and his company Bad Robot produced a FOX show set on the island (imaginatively titled, you guessed it, Alcatraz). After his work creating the barmy Lost, I tend to believe that the links that can be drawn between his works are intentional, and though it could be a coincidence, I seriously doubt Abrams could avoid the cheeky opportunity to symbolically demonstrate what the network behemoth did to the man's work. Or am I reaching just a teeny bit?
