Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Expanded Universe Stories That Should Be Used For Inspiration

10. Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter

I know I mentioned that Boba Fett is my all time favorite Star Wars character but Darth Maul is my all time favorite Sith. I€™ll never forget seeing the teaser for Episode I: The Phantom Menace on TRL back in 1998 for the first time. It was great seeing classic characters like Yoda, a presumed younger Obi-Wan, the cloaked figure who I assumed was the Emperor and€that bad ass with the black and red face! Who was THAT?! Fighting two Jedi at once?! A double bladed lightsaber?! I€™ll also never forget the crushing blow I cast upon myself after reading the Phantom Menace graphic novel before seeing the movie and witnessing Darth Maul being cut in half! Oh the misfortunes of youth. Thank the C-3P0 god for the Clone Wars cartoon and righting that wrong€ Whenever I would discuss Star Wars EU to friends and discuss a launching point, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter was the book I€™d give them. If they had any interest at all in reading some EU, I wave my hand in font of their face and would say read this. As tough as certain feelings are towards Episode I, Shadow Hunter does an amazing job at giving die-hard fans a great prequel view prior to the events of the Phantom Menace. Take the prequels for what they are and throw the rest out the window: they are a part of the story and removing this is sacrilegious. The meat of Shadow Hunter focuses primarily on Darth Sidious and his first steps at unleashing his plan for control of the galaxy. Much of this story centers on Maul tracking down information that could expose these tactics and eliminating any threats to the secret of the Sith and the plans that are in motion. We see a lot of Maul that fans of the films wish they could have seen. He is a killer and an assassin that lurks in the shadows. Darth Maul is such an iconic character with the newer generation of fans I think it would do great justice to see him in a film that centers on his character. Likelihood of being a film: 1
