Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 11 Major Plot Clues From The Final Trailer

5. The Jedi And The Force Are A Secret Now?

Right, so let's get the criticism out of the way first. Are we supposed to believe that in 30 years, the greatest war in the history of the galaxy and how it was won using space voodoo magic has been completely glossed over? Is this Ghostbusters 2, where short memories have somehow conspired to erase the giant demonic God and marshmallow man from collective consciousness? No matter what the explanation, neither Rey nor Finn seem aware of the Force as anything but an old myth. The way the trailer is framed - with Han Solo saying "it's all true" - feels a little like the Ministry For Magic's suppression of Voldemort's existence in Harry Potter, as if Jedis and The Force are all now secret for some reason. To what end you might ask? Well, to protect anyone who is Force sensitive possibly (like Rey) and in terms of The Empire, to suppress the fact that their most embarrassing defeat came at the hands (well hand) of a space wizard. Maybe they're just not big on telling new recruits about their enemies' potential for super powerful magic? Anyway, it's an intriguing revelation that at least the central pair aren't aware of The Force. It could simply be because one is an exile kept in ignorance for her own sake, and the other is an Empire lab rat who doesn't get out much.
