Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 30 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

5. 2187

So after all that trickery about Finn's surname being important, it turns out it's just a made up name all along. But there is something in his designation as a storm trooper that fits the canon. He's called FN-2187, and 2187 was the number of Princess Leia's detention cell in A New Hope. The fact that his name is taken from his codename is also a nod to George Lucas' THX 1138 in which characters are called by the phonetic pronunciations of assigned serial numbers (e.g. "THX-1138" was "Thix", "LUH-3417" was "Luh", and "SEN-5241" was "Sen"). And Finn is a popular name in Star Wars materials too: but since the EU isn't canon, it's not likely they played a part in the naming decision.
