Star Wars: Why Game Of Thrones' Creators Should Make Knights Of The Old Republic
6. It's Something Different
From The Phantom Menace to The Last Jedi, we've had eight Star Wars filming spanning a grand total of about sixty years. Episode IX might have a time jump, but it'll only be by a few years or so, while the spin-offs - Rogue One and the forthcoming Solo - both stick in the period between Episodes III and IV, which is also where a Kenobi movie would likely fall.
I don't quite by the idea that we're getting too much Star Wars (not yet, anyway), but we are getting to the point of too much Original Trilogy timeline stuff, which is where almost all the offshoots - comics, novels, video games etc - exist.
The Old Republic circumnavigates this issue by taking place thousands of years before any of this ever happened. There are familiar elements, but the rules and status of the Jedi and Sith are presented in new ways, it's a completely different galaxy with new planets to visit, and a whole roster of untouched characters that don't bear resemblance to those we've already seen.
